I have a 1974 4001 bass that I'd like to put back to specs. The previous owner replaced the neck pickup and installed a humbucker and a coil tapping switch and in doing so filed the pickguard hole bigger to accomodate the humbucker. Causing there to be a half inch gap on one side of the pickguard in the pickup hole. It looks like RIC sells the 4003 pickguard. Would that fit onto my 4001 or would there be alignment problems?

The original pickguard for your 4001/74 is different from 4003. You can check the difference through the Pickguardian site. Good luck!
