Hello All!
I just received a brand new mapleglo 4003. It’s one of the new models with walnut stripes on the headstock and a vintage tone knob. It's absolutely gorgeous. I’m also pleased because the neck seems to be slimmer front to back in comparison to old 4003. Anyway, enough gushing... I’d like to remove the bridge PU cover, is there anything I need to know before I attempt this?
Danny

Hi Danny,

Congradulations on the new Ric and welcome to the forum.

The cover is pretty easy to remove. The best way to do it is to remove the strings and then remove the four smaller screws that hold the whole pup assembly in place. Take the assembly out of the body and then unscrew the two screws holding the cover.

You also might want to look at the replacement guard that pickguardian makes. Just do a search on this forum for this guy. There's been a couple of individuals post pictures of their setup with this guard(Pinto comes to mind). I replaced mine about 2 weeks ago and will never miss having the old cover there

lanztec- Thanks for responding to my post. In regard to the Pickguardian bridge plate, is it still possible to anchor your thumb on top of the bridge pu?

If you don't add the pickup guard I'd say yes. I've added the clear pickup guard to protect the sides of the bridge pickup. With the pickup guard you can rest your thumb on the edge of that. It isn't as close to the strings but seems to work for me although I'm mainly a pick player.
