Very sad news indeed and another true talent that will be greatly missed. An inspiration to alot of musicians, not just bass players.
Never met him myself but apparently a genuinely nice bloke as well.

In my book (literally and figuratively), Chris Squire was the ambassador of the Rickenbacker bass. No one carried on longer with the Rick as his primary instrument. No one could match the "voice" he brought from the instrument. No one looked "cooler" than he did playing the Rick. His talent and his presence in music on stage and off were gifts to us all. My three conversations with him will not be, but must be, enough for me. My condolences to his wife, Scotty, his family, his bandmates, and his fans.

I met him once. He was with Scotland at a Gong gig at the Queen Elizabeth Hall (part of the Southbank complex in London). I was only slightly star-struck. We shook hands and he was very personable. I asked him if he enjoyed the gig. He thought for a while, before replying politely "I enjoyed the end".

His passing was much too soon. A giant in every way. RIP Chris.
