... Could one of you comment on the tonal differences between the high-gain bridge pup -vs- the current horseshoe model?

I too would like to know this - I have not heard live nor played a horseshoe.

As for the '74 sound you had vs today's hi-gains, the 74 hi-gains were about 8k windings with a one-piece slab magnet/4 button like the present ones have and sounded pretty similiar to the 7.4k toasters but a bit hotter. Todays hi-gains (11.8-12.2K) are much hotter and growly but not as refined as a result. Along the lines of the 60's 330/12 vs the 80's 620/12.

I went with a toaster in the neck and unwound the bridge to about 7.8k (similiar to the '74 bridge you had).

Thx, JohnAllG. This kinda answers it for me. As in many things, you give to get. In this case, I think I'm leaning toward wider bandwith over the higher gain. It's comforting Ric actually still makes a C64. Now, if I can sell some of this gear lying all around me!

Hope they're coming soon 'cause I've got a V63 waiting for one!

Maybe an exchange program, like used with the TRC replacement would be considered to get a new Horseshoe.
