Has anyone played with that?
Is it possible to order one like that?

Appreciate your thoughts.

I thought about this myself. To my knowledge you cannot order a 4003 with the HB1's. You can however buy the HB1's and have them installed by yourself or a luthier.
I personally love the sound of the HB1's and have on order my first 4004L. I may play with the idea of later sticking some humbuckers in a 4003. Maybe a new 4003MG with the new walnut wings.

Thanx for sharing the feeling fellows.

Question is: are the pups the same size or do u need to route or fill? They look like they would fit, but who knows for sure..

The 4004 plays great, but it really is not an attractive Bass (IMHO)and lacks all that great detail a Ric usually has. I just happen to prefer Humbuckers over single coil.
Was asking in case somebody did a switch already.

The HB-1s will fit just fine they are the same size as toasters/hi-gains. I put toasters in both positions of my 4003FL; to put the HB-1 in the bridge position will require a couple of screws, washers and nuts but it is easy to do.

Thats good news.

Thank you for your input!!!

a 4003 owner can purchase 2 hb1 pickups and install them ... you will need a little skill with a screw driver and a soldering iron ... you will have to purchase a couple of extra screws and nuts from your hardware store ... also I would suggest that you install 500k volume pots ... with the existing 250 volume pots your 4003 will sound a little dark with the hb1 pickups ...

The 4003 comes stock with 250k volume pots and 500k ohm tone pots ... to make the bass a little warmer swap out the tone pots for 250k ohm pots ... this works nicely on a 4001 bass with the 8k ohm high gain pickups and the toaster pickups as well ...

also the current 4003 high gain is a single coil 11k ohm pickup and the 4004 hb1 is a dual rail series humbucker that is 15k ohm ...

try a hb1 pickup in the bridge and a toaster in the neck on your 4003 ... one pickup will be nasty and one will be smooth ...

My hi-gains (4003 11/2004) were both (neck and bridge) around 12.2k - that is measuring with two different Fluke 75 multimeters.
