hi guys,
I'm new here, this is my first post ever in a musician's forum. I'm 17, and I want to start an all-girls-band. my father said (he used to play bass when he was young, too), he's gonna by my the best bass in the world. so he came along with this neat black n white ric. wow. I really like the looks. It rocks!!!! but the sound? I don't know ... like, bloomb, bloomb. I play fingerstyle, and I try to hit the strings really hard. but the e-string is kinda dull. the others cut, they are rockin'.
can anybody help? what should I do? should I sell it, piss my father off and get a Music Man Stingray (that's what my boyfriend plays)???
guys? *blinkblink* ^^

Perhaps you should look into getting the bass set up. Or maybe a new set of strings would do the trick.

ok, so I'm back ...
the bass is brandnew. out of a box. my dad already said, I should try lighter strings. I changed them. still, the e-string just mumbles. the other strings twaaaaang! could it be the neck, do I have to tweak it? ok, not meself, my bass teacher ... it looks so coooooool. I would be really sad if that one had to go. :'(

This because you already tried new strings. Don't give up on it, it should sing on all 4 strings. Take Kenny's advice and have the setup checked - the store you got it at should do a setup for you, or any reliable guitar tech who is familiar with the Rick's two truss rod neck adjustments. Your Rick is a fine instrument - let him have his Stingray, you can growl right on past him!!

hmm, right ... my dad has a friend who owns an old ric from back then. I'm gonna ask him too. I think he has all the tools you need for adjusting that neck. at least that's what I hope. I don't trust the guys in the store, they said it's alright, but it isn't. I can tell that.
and, yes, my ric looks muck cooler than his odd black stingray (which sounds kinda alright). I just have to get that e-sting twangin like the a-string .... !
thanks anyway bb
