what'cha usin for an amp ????????

a buddy of mine has a PEAVEY...........which is the biggest piece of garbage i ever heard...........it isn't even good enuff to use for a practice amp.......there is just no tone, color,............nothing........just ....blaaaaaah.........garbage......

it's not the amp. my boyfriend has an ampeg with one million of watts full tube power or so. plus a cabinet as big as our fridge. tried that - still, the e-strings is a losah ... :'(

Beenie, is it just the open E note or every note of the E string on the fingerboard?

it's all of them. and it gets worse (in dullness) when you play above the 12th fret ...

Unfortunately, this is one of those situations where if you don't see the instrument, it's hard to tell what the problem might be. Pickups could be too close or too far away way from the strings. One might be too close, the other too far way. The bass may just need a good set up.

John Hall suggests that a slight tweak (not enough to effect the bow of the neck) of one or both truss rods can eliminate a dead spot on a neck, which makes sense. So I wonder if that would possibly help in this case also. It's worth a try by someone who knows how to do it. I hate to contradict your father, but a thinner gauged E string won't necessarily be the solution. Something is absorbing the energy of the string. Make sure all your screws and strap locks are snug. Don't over tighten any screws, just make them snug with a screwdriver using only the strength of your fingers.

my dad called a bass player he knows who teaches bass at some college or university. this guy will have a look at my beauty next week.

I told my dad in the first run: in no way it's the strings. but he insisted upon being "the pro". yeah, right, smarta## ...*giggle* (I hope, Mr. Know-it-all isn't reading the forum)

Some one jsut suggested checking the mute, make sure it's no where near to string, Just a thought. Good luck!

Yeah, that's usually the first thing to check when a string doesn't have any sustain on a 4001 or 4003.
