The reason is that the 250K volume pots are paralleled in mono..which loads down the signal more.... In STEREO each 250K volume pot is isolated and you get a stronger signal..
If you need to prove it to yourself..then listen to the sound of just your bridge pick-up in either the MONO jack then in the STEREO jack...

Very true but, I found that running both Pickups into each head gives a fuller tone with my particular rigs. And I can Eq each one if I want one designated for more treble & one for more bass. If I hadn't gotten such a great deal on my Bluetube II Stereo preamp, I would probably use the ROS.
