Hi.
Dunno if this has been raised in the past, probably. But what are the chances of Rickenbacker EVER doing another 4005, or doing a reissue??
They are such awsome basses that are getting really thin on the ground and if you do get one for sale its usually too expensive to buy, seems there would definatly be a market for a 4005.
Cheers all.
Happy Monty 4003 owner.

Never say never, but... probably close to never.

They look so awesome, but I'm not spending around 8 grand for a BASS!

John Hall stated in a past thread that 4005 is not suitable to produce again because its little market. So it's very very close to 'never'.

If you scour the bass forum you'll come across a recent thread about the same issue. The answer is no, according to John Hall.
Best you save your dollars, err....pounds, and get one. One recently sold in the UK for $3K USD. It was an '81 and in pretty beat up condition.
I got both of mine off the Bay with one being $4K USD and the other $5K USD. The latter being in pretty beat up condition, non oiginal case and is a '66 OS. Right now it's in the loving hands of Dale Fortune for a restore and new refinish, (blueburst). The other is '82 FG with heavy checking and dings. Seems like someone used it very little. Sounds AMAZING!
I love these basses and I'm certain many of the members here will vouch for it. Right Jeff? :-)

If they were ever reissued, I would be the first money-waving freak in line at the music store.
I predict that this will never happen ever. Ever.

Everyone's right about pricing and marketing but hey...what's the current wait time for a new RIC, up to 18 months I've heard. If and I mean "IF" RIC produced the 2005 and it was within reason (cost wise) I'd stand in line to order one also. RIC has NO PROBLEMS selling the "C" series guitars for $2,500.00 and up. What could they possibly sell the 2005 for? It's not like they've forgot how to produce them or thrown away any plans they used in the past. Nothing is cost prohibitive. Yeah it boils down to a "custom shop" piece and I know RIC doesn't have a custom shop but offer it. If I would want one that bad and I knew up front that it could take a considerable amount of time to get one, then I either order it, wait on it or shut up and sit around wishing I had one. But it's RIC's call and as we all know it won't be made. Business is business and rare guitars drive the price up if you want one that bad.

I still think it would make much more sense to just release that shape as a solid body alternative to the 4003.

No offence to anyone, i just think it would sell that way.

But I really cant get to grips with this constant backward thinking of Rickenbacker. Even in england most kids today dont know what the company is. And they dont care about the beatles anymore.

A solid body version of the 4005 would be quite heavy, I think.

Right, 4005luvr!
