I own two Warwick Dolphin Pro 1 models (4- and 5 string) from the late eighties and mid nineties. Hand built, active electronics, very modern and growly sounding.
For some types of music though these modern active beasties just don't cut it. This is why I bought the mother of all rock basses - my Ric 4003.
I owned Rics before but doing as we do I flogged them on my quest for tone. Now that I have returned I feel I have the best of both worlds on the active and passive side of things.
Obviously, 1976 Rickenbacker 4001 Jetglo. 1984 Westone Rail Bass in Black. 1986 MIJ Fender Jazz Bass Special in Pearl (Think Duff Mckagan bass, but I had it first). 2011 Schecter Raiden Special 5 String in Black Cherry.
2011-RIC 4003 Jetglo 2012-RIC 4003 Fireglo 2012-Fender J-Bass American 62 reissue, Olympic White 2012-Fender P-Bass American 62 reissue, Sunburst Yep I got my Fireglo!!

You can't really go without at least a P-bass in your arsenal.
