Thinking about some kind of fretless P/J combo: J body, P neck (with Ebony fingerboard, preferably), P/J pickups.

Sold the Steinberger and purchased a 2005 Fender Jazz American Deluxe in Candy Tangerine
Candy Tangerine is a discontinued color...we have an American Deluxe Tele in that color...maple 'board, pearloid P/G...very pretty...and the dots are Abalone, not M.O.P.,by the way...

That is correct. Both of my basses are discontinued colors; the Candy Tangerine Jazz and the Desert Gold Ric.

Last September, I bought a new '62 P-Bass Reissue (in Sunburst, in honor of Jameson and the Funk Machine!)

I love it!

Having a nice Fender makes me appreciate my Ric more and I go back and forth between the basses, using either of them for a few weeks at a time.

To me the Ric goes deep and the Fender goes fat.

Yep...that's why I sold my P-Bass...after taking what used to be my favorite bass to a gig,I realized that it just wasn't good enough anymore...after playing nothing but RIC 3001,4001 & 4003's for the last seven or eight years,I was spoiled by the choice of three distinctively different sounds (and a million subtle variations) from one bass...not to mention Ric-O-Sound,which NONE of my other basses have...

I have only 1 other bass - a lefty G&L L.2000

That and my L/H '78 Jetglo 4001 Ric, is all I could want/need. Two excellent basses, bought 2nd hand but near mint condition, with cases. For a lefty, I'm lucky.

I have an electric guitar too, Epiphone Les Paul Special-II.

Previous basses:
Fender MusicMaster
Fender P
Fender J MIA
Washburn (I forget the model name ...had P and J pups)
Fender J MIJ *
Cort (Artisan ...CB4?)
Hofner 500/1
F Squier P Special *
Fender J MIM

Those marked * were bought fretted but then de-fretted after a while. No, I don't have the Hofner anymore and yes, I regret selling it!

I have an early 80s Rickenbacker 4003, triple white. It's the one they'll have to pry out of my cold, dead hands.

I'm waiting for a 4004L BBR. This is much awaited, and may well become the One Bass to rule them all.

However, yesterday I took delivery of an old Yamaha BB1000S and it is fabulous! I can see some serious play-time in its future.
