I just purchased a 1980 4001 rick on eBay, does anyone know if I need a special 1/4 inch plug for the Rick-O-Jack to work. It works with a regular 1/4 inch plug but it has to be plugged in 3/4 of the way, if I push it in all the way I loose amp output.
Thanks,
Tom

You need the Ric-O-Sound box or similar stereo splitter to use the Ric-O-Sound output jack. The plug that goes into the Ric-O-Sound jack has to be a stereo 1/4", which would then lead to two mono 1/4" plugs so you can use two separate amps.. If you plug a standard instrument cable into the Ric-O-Sound jack, you will only get sound from the treble pickup.

Is the stereo 1/4 inch plug shorter that a standard 1/4 inch plug? I have to leave my standard 1/4 inch plug out by about 1/4 inch to get any sound, if I plug it in all the way I get nothing.

A stereo plug is the same length, but has two poles for each signal. By using a mono plug in that jack, you're only getting the signal from one pickup. Use the standard jack, not the ROS.

Ok. One last question, why does the RICK-O-SOUND jack work with the 1/4 plug inserted 3/4 of the way? Should it?
Thanks,
Tom

Again, you are getting signal from only one pickup. Use the standard jack.

A normal guitar cord won't work right in the ROS jack, OK?
To use the ROS you'll need a 1/4"TRS plug into a splitter. Go to Radio Shack!

A Radio Shack stereo-Y splitter (and not the headphone one) is great to see if you can use the effect in your setup. But for continued use, I strong recommend you get a quality, low capacitance, shielded stereo-Y cable, make one, or get the kit.
