Has anyone seen the 4001 on eBay that was signed by Squire? OK. There must be something wrong with my brain. As much as I respect Squire's ability, and love his bass lines, I wouldn't let him or anyone else write on my Ric. I suppose that if my intention was to sell it, and I thought that the signature of one of rock's greats would increase the value, then sign away. I do my best to keep my basses clean, ding free, and highly polished. To me, any writing, including the signature of anyone, would ruin the appearance of my axe.

So what do you players think? Who is going to write on your Ric?

I only can agree with you!! I wouldn't buy that bass.

Last year before a Yes show in Austin I got Chris to sign the bottom of my 4001cs COA. That seemed more appropriate to me than signing the bass. By the way, his signature looks just like his signature!

I have 4001cs #298 (Nov. '91) and it is still showroom.

Rock on!

Does anyone know if the CS had the cap installed, to produce the really thin horseshoe tone, like the C64 or was it bypassed?

I'd bet there's no .0047uF bass cut cap in there. I don't think RIC started using those again until the C64 and 4003's with the vintage tone option.

so if that's true, then a CS bass would sound similar (if not identical) to a C64 with the cap removed?

The fretboard wood on the 4001CS is different, which could affect the tone, and I think the CS bridge pickup might be a lower Ohms rating.
