Never even heard of these let alone see one. Looks cool, wonder when Rickenbacker ceased production?

We ceased production of that model in 1984.

My first "real" bass was (and is) a '76 4000 in FireGlo. It sounds very bright with lots of sustain, but somewhat less bottom than a 4001. Plays like a dream, but it's quite neck heavy in balance. Lots of bite & harmonics, a very clear sound with roundwound strings.
These babies cut through a muddy mix like a chainsaw :)
