Hey everyone, Im trying to get rid of my late stepdads bass. He's had this sucker since before I ever knew him and it had a rickenbacker faceplate on the headstock till about 7 years ago. He passed away a couple months ago and Im selling all of his stuff on ebay, this thing has a serial number on the back of the neck plate, which shows on this site as being made in august 1985. But people freaked out and told me it was a fake but didnt give me any more info on why besides it only has one rod instead of two and ricks dont have set necks. Please take a look and let me know so I can accurately describe this thing! Thanks in advance

Yup, hate to confirm it, but this is a fake. There's quite a few things wrong about it but the most obvious is the single truss rod and the bolt-on neck- things we never did. Sorry!

Plus, if you want to sell it on ebay, you better not mention the words "Rickenbacker," "4001," "4003," "Ric," "copy," "lawsuit," or anything else that might suggest it is a Ric copy, or your auction will be shut down. Contrary to what some people say about Rickenbacker being unreasonable about this, it is actually eBay's policy to not allow counterfeits to be sold on their site. They will shut down any auction where the item is listed as a fake, copy, or counterfeit.
