Hello, I recently purchased a '76 481. The finish was stripped and the truss rod cover was replaced with a wood (!) one. I'd like to get the original plastic type cover. Any ideas? I'm having professionally refinished (jetglo style). The wood truss rod cover looks silly anyway and will look even sillier once the guitar has paint again.

I don't know how you can find a truss cover but I will post a few photo links of my 77 481 that may help in some way. I think the 1975 481 truss cover had a date only and you can see my 77 has the model marked as well not sure about the 76 model. Also you can see how my pick guard stayed bright white yet the truss cover has faded to a creamy tan color which is like one of the favorite features of my 481. Also I have a nature bone nut replacing the worn plastic black one, which I still have but the tone is richer now, I feel. Cheers!

Wow, what a beauty. I've enjoyed playing mine so much that I can't seem to play my other guitars!

Hey Jenton, they are fun aren't they? If you have not picked a guitar luthier to do your 481 restore project yet, we have a good one here at this forum. Just search the forums for Jingle_Jangle. His work on Rickenbackers is first rate highest quality.

Wow, Aloha...thanks for the props.

Any white (or black, should you need it) molded TRC will fit a 481, provided you sand or file a slight angle on the edge where it meets up with the nut.

Later 481s did have the model number hot stamped on the TRC at the nut edge; mine is a BT 481 with the model number and Rick script in white...if I ever lost it, I'm in deep doo-doo...
