Post subject:  Electro ES16 Restoration

Hi Guys,

New to the forum and excited to get some advice. I just dug out an Electro ES16 that has been sitting in a closet for the past 25 years. My parents bought this for my little brother years ago, and as you can see, he beat the hell out of it! I am hoping to get it playable again for my daughter (and me!). As you can see from the pics, the neck is broken - is this fixable? I have located the missing tuning winds, but have not been able to find the bridge piece that it's missing. Any advice? Also, should I try to paint, or leave it as is? I'd love to have it repainted, but I dont want to ruin any of the vintage cache it might have, although I am not planning on selling it ever. Lastly, for Jingle Jangle, what would you charge for this restoration?

Thanks in advance!

I picked up one of these about 5 years back...it was an '83 and probably one of the last built, and it was an under the bed guitar in mint condition with original strings that were as rusty as can be...

That neck can be stabilized fairly easily, but you've got to know what you're doing...

I would not necessarily refinish it, but would certainly clean it up nicely and wax it once the neck is stabilized. My own ES-16 has not been refinished.

That 2-piece bridge is a rarity. You'll have to check out Ebay. They do turn up, but rarely. You could potentially have one machined or adapt a wooden archtop bridge to fit.

Depending on where you're located, it could be relatively inexpensive to UPS it to me for a going-over, neck stabilization, clean up, set-up and bridge fitment.

My email address is in my profile.

Thanks for the info Jingle Jangle. I'd love to talk to you about sending this to you. When I click on your profile, I am not seeing your email. I see where it says email, but I don't see anything next to that. Can you see mine?

Oddly, although my email address is in my own profile view, the public view doesn't show it.

Just PM me--I'll get a notification.

What is the name of this type of two piece bridge? Is there a specific model number I should be searching for?
