I just picked up a 1975 4001 that has been stripped down/refinished to natural. It has black plastics and bindings and I want to restore it/refinish it to white like the 75 4001 I had when I was younger was.

Does anyone know what paint code or color or shade of white I need to get?

I wonder if the finish Rickenbacker used was similar to Fender's Olympic White (#05). Then, when the top coat yellowed, it started looking more like Vintage White (#41).

We used a variety of white colors through the years, although most were of a fairly brilliant "pure" white before the clear coat went on. As noted, the clear coats, at least in the past, yellowed to varying degrees which tended to give an ivory appearance.

Bottom line- select a shade of white that YOU like!

Way back in the eighties, I owned a nice 1978 4001 in white with the black trim, and the white had started to turn a lovely cream color because of yellowing of the clear coat. Sure wish I'd kept it! It was a great little bass!

Bassman4001--I don't know if you got a chance to see any of the limited run 4004's in SnoGlo, but that was a very cool finish--pearlescent white.

How do you mean erase any? The white gel pen is permanent, so once drawn that is that..

Thanks for your lovely comment :-
