I have a 1966 330 FG that I haven't played in years. I acquired it from a friend back in high school in the early 80's for $175 (with installment payments, no less!), and I now want to get it looked over and any needed repairs done. Trouble is, I don't know who to trust with it. Can anyone here recommend someone in the Washington DC / Virginia / Maryland area? I'm not looking to do a restoration (I can live with buckle rash), but I know my Ric needs to be looked over. I also know it has a broken truss rod, and the neck pitch is slightly upward (positive), not level. Thanks in advance.

PA is a little far from Falls Church.

Check out Action Music in Arlington:

http://www.actionguitar.com/

They are not necessarily Rickenbacker experts but I and others from this (and another) forum have had very good success with them.

Good luck! - Mark

I take all my stuff to Greg at Metro guitar service on the corner of Hayes and 23rd. st. in Arlington just up from Crystal City. Greg used to do all of Gary's set up and repair work at North Coast Music before moving to this area.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I actually *would* drive to Rhodes in Pennsylvania if it meant I'd feel more secure than using a shop that didn't have specific Rickenbacker experience. I'd been meaning to contact Metro about a different guitar, so I'll ask them about the Ric as well. I know Action deals in vintage, but don't know their skill level on repairs.

And pardon my ignorance, but who is Gary that Greg of Metro did set ups for?

I've also taken 4 of my guitars to Action Music in Arlington, 2 of them were Ric 12s. One bit of advice though, have the owner do it. I can't remember his name at the moment.

Gary is "Doc Vox" who owns North Coast Music. As I said Greg used to work for North Coast Music before he moved to Arlington, Va. Greg has done set ups and other work on all of my Rickenbackers and is quite knowledgeable.
