Hi

I'm considering on buying a 1973 Ric 4001 but too things are little bit suspicious in this bass. It has 1" spacing for the toaster PU and it has shorter inlays on the fretboard. Can this be original on a '73 Ric 4001?

Does anyone know in which year Ric started doing shorter triangle inlays on the fretboard and in which year they moved the neck pick-up further away from the neck to 1" spacing...

There's already a thread about this in the 'General' forum.

marlboro...The short answer to your inlay question is Yes. For more inlay details, check out the similar thread in the General Forum.

Hey Marlboro, I believe I've seen the '73 4001 you mention. The pickguard on it is not period-accurate. The 1" neck pickup spacing was not introduced until May 1975, I think, and the four controls remained parallel-running until early or mid 1977.

P.S. The shorter fretboard inlays were introduced April/May 1973, I think.
