After about 50 different answers to this,it seems the C simply stands for the letter itself.Following the B vintage series of 15 or more years ago.

The same reason Jaguar called their LeMans race cars of the late 1950's "D" types.

Whouldn't it then be "W" rather than "C" as this series came after the "V" series?
