I figured I would write this post here in the bass section just because mostly bass players are reading this section so here it goes, I'm getting ready to buy a bass cabinet and I already have a brand new Ampeg SVT all tube head but I can't seem to make up my mind wiether to get a Ampeg 8x10 or a Ampeg 2x15 I have played thru both with my 4003 and they sound awesome but I thought I would see if the mighty Rickenbacker supporters could help me make up my mind, so which one do you folks think I should go for, the 2x15 or 8x10 cabinet.

To better fit in my SUV, I use two SVT410HLF cabs. instead of the 8 x 10".

Hmmm... this is an important decision. It wasn't that long ago I was out trying cabinets for my Sunn Model T, and I also play a 4003. I would venture to say that with a 4003 and an all tube head, you may want the 810, in the name of range. Some 215s lack on the high end and quiet you down too much when you're working on the D and the G. As long as the 810s don't break up on the low end, you should be good. Tens are a lot better these days than they used to be.

hi, it all depends on what type of music you play. I did have two 410xl hartke bottoms which sounded great. I just traded one bottom for a genz-benz 100watt combo with a 15". I did not need 8 10's anymore. I also needed something that didnt take two people to load. Im old school, I like the 15" sound over the 10". I was happy with my eight 10's but I dont play in a heavy metal band now, Too old for that.;0) The best setup i have owned was two 10's on top of a 15" bottom, it sounded great. I would go with that set up, and if you needed to play a smaller place, you can break the stack down, only using one bottom. Also eight 10's in one cabinet is very big and heavy. hope you have a strong back.:)

I'm of a similar opinion to Grendel. I was using a borrowed old 70's combo with 2 10"s and 1 15" for about a year, and boy, was the sound awesome.

Currently, I'm using an Ampeg SVT-350 with an Ampeg 1X15" cab. I plan on eventually getting a 2X10" cab as well, because I want that combination again.

A cabinet that sounds great is the old peavy cab. with 2 10's and a 18". It also had a built in crossover in the cab. which gives you a biamped sound. Man what a great cab. too bad peavey doesnt make it anymore.

Vox still makes 118's. One of those with a good 410 might be a force to be reckoned with.

Mesa Boogie makes a cab with 4x10's a 15 and a horn (the Powerhouse 1000).
It's not as big as an 8x10, more like the size of a 6x10 so it's a little easier to get around. It has so much low end, and is so clear sounding.

It really is a phenomenal sounding cab, definately worth the extra $$. I got one about 2 years ago, and I couldn't recommend it enough.

Where are you located...
I have both 2x15" Ampeg cabs as well as 8x10" Ampeg cabs ...you are welcome to try them out with your amp to see which one you like best..That is if you are close enough to San Diego???
Personally, I prefer to use two cabs plugged into the SVT head...One cab is 2x15" reflex and the other is a 8x10" ...

8x10, no contest. (That is, if you can lug it around).

Otherwise a 4x10 & 1x15 is a great combo.

but really, for an SVT, 8x10 = thunder.
