I´m not so keen in english language, so it might be that I don´t understand the pointe in some names used by rickenbacker. What´s behind "Jetglo"? I can associate the mapleglo, fireglo and autumglo but "jetglo"? I think that "montezuma brown" is just a cool name for "trans-gold-brown" with no deeper connection to the native mexican chief.(I noticed that some names of native americans or related terms are used for several products. Jeep gots "cherookee", the weaponindustiy got´s "tomahawks", rickenbacker got´s "cheyenne" basses.) Someone has alredy cleared my "dakota-question", but whats in "laguna" and "blueboy"?

A deep solid black color is commonly referred to as being "jet black". So I assume JetGlo comes from the expression.
Actually, "trans-gold-brown" is just a cool name for "Montezuma brown".
Montezuma's revenge is a name for a certain disorder from drinking bad water, but I don't really want to make that analogy about color.
I'll let the others take a stab at blueboy and laguna!

Laguna probably comes from Laguna Beach in Florida.
Jet is a black gemstone.

I think Blue Boy comes from the custom powder blue guitars built for 'Jim Reeves and the Blue Boys' in the early 60's.
Can anyone clarify that?

I'd think the Laguna refers more to Laguna Beach in California. Much closer to Ricks home.

Jet = black (jet black) Glo = gloss
As for Montezuma, he was known to drink copious amounts of pure Mayan CHOCOLATE. This man lived in splendor, surrounded by golden finery, and sipped pure liquid chocolate. A fitting name, bespeaking New World elegance, is Montezuma Brown.
Just forget about the rampant human sacrifice, cannabalism, and brutal expansionism of Montezuma's empire. :) The Spanish who conquered him brought the guitar across the Atlantic for us, didn't they?
Cheers, Noel

Ahh, that makes sense. I never did put the "Montezuma" and "chocolate" reference together.
Actually I was having trouble getting past MMM's unstated and rather troubling "gastric complaint" analogy!!!

Quote: Laguna probably comes from Laguna Beach in Florida. Never heard of it. I live in Laguna Beach, California, which is the source of the name. Of course, if I was into racing, it could have been a reference to Laguna Seca . . . Jet Black is just English slang, I guess. Looking at Goggle, it's not all nice, I notice. In addition to Jim Reeves, Blue Boy is also a nod to Gainsborough's painting.
