Hi everybody, it´s just a „couple“ of days that I´ve got my dream bass – a wonderful `93 4003 S in fireglo. But playing her so extensively in the last few days I´m sure that I´ll need a set of new strings for her very very soon. I use flats on my 4001 – but in order not to lose this wonderful growl of the 4003S I don´t want to play her with flats. Any idea or hands on experience of what are the best roundwounds for her (exept from the RIC strings that are not quite easy to come by over here in Germany) ?
If this was asked a thousand times before and I was just to stupid to find it in the search mod – please don´t kick me (emoticon for blush) ........... and thanks in advance for your suggestions and your help
Best from Germany

DR "Low Rider" handmade strings. They last and last.

Thanks folks for your ideas, hints and help. I think I´ll try all (one after the other) and let you know which are suiting best for me (and her of course).

Dr nickel lo-riders are great strings and they do last a long time. At the moment I prefer Ric strings though. I like the tone, balance in tension between the strings, and unique gauges with nice fat .105 E string. There are a couple of reasonably priced UK based suppliers or Ric strings on ebay. They offer free postage within the UK so perhaps they would offer postage at a reasonable rate to Germany?

I like D'Addario EXL-170's. They're nickel rounds gauged .045/.065/.080/.100.
