I recall hearing somewhere that John Hall said the average Rickenbacker owner owns 5. In this, I am average.

First one was a new 2010 4003 Jetglo. Vintage knobs, Tubeampology bezel and Circle K .106 balanced rounds. Best bass I have ever played and part of me.

Second one was a new 2009 330/6 Jetglo. iiipope's push/pull mod done by the man himself, vintage knobs and TI Jazz Flats in .10. An absolute icon and as my wife says, "Plays like butter!"

Third one was a (barely) used 2008 4003FL Mapleglo. Vintage knobs, neck Toaster, '76 HiGain and Rotosound Tapewounds. Wanted a new FL in Jetglo, but they were "on hiatus". Didn't really want Mapleglo, but it was a good price in good shape. The wood grain on the body, headstock wings and (especially) the fretboard is stunning and brought me around on Mapleglo. Good uprightish tone.

Fourth one was a new 2009 620/12 Midnight Blue. Got it for a steal from Pick of the Ricks because it had a couple of small scratches on it you can hardly see. Had Chris throw on the vintage knobs and his wonderful set of flats. I was worried about being able to play a 12 strings, but with the setup Chris did, I cannot believe how easy it is to play. It has all the Rickenbacker 12 mystique, but with something extra with it being a solidbody. I know everyone is all about the 300 series 12's with toasters, but there is some magic in a 600 series 12 with HiGains. It can jangle all you want and then be clear, direct and loud. Also has the iiipope's push/pull mod done by the man himself for something a bit more vintage when needed.

The fifth and final one is a (barely) used 1995 610/6 in Fireglo. Vintage knobs, TI Jazz Flats in .11 and iiipope's push/pull mod done by the man himself. I just fell in love with the 600 series after getting the 620/12 and wanted the 600 series equivalent of the 330. Found this 610 on RRF and it was a case queen and looked brand new. As much as I love my other Rickenbackers, this one is the lightest, fastest and easiest to play guitar I have ever laid my hands on. As close to perfection as you can get.

And the best part is, all my guitars were bought with only photos to go on. A testimony to the unmatched quality of Rickenbacker instruments. I love knowing they were all made in the same place by many of the same people. They are a privilege to own and worth every penny and for those of you who want one but don't have one yet, they are worth the wait and there are NO substitutes!

I am 38 and am happily married with one son and wanted Rickenbackers because of REM, The Jam and Joy Division.

Very nice Martin!

I'm set on a 330 Fireglo by the end of the year. I'm excited to get a new model, because who knows what's in store with the newer fret wood? Who knows what I can expect with all the small difference between a Fireglo 330 and a Jetglo 360? :) I'm excited!

fascinating to read!

i currently own two of these fine instruments. the first is a 330/6 in a beautiful, dark fireglo finish, purchased from a great brick-and-mortar store in wisconsin after i saw it on their website.

then, my dear and lovely wife completely surprised me with my dream guitar for my 40th birthday: a stunning 330/12 in mapleglo (ordered from the same store).

i'm incredibly thankful. these guitars are absolute joys to play!

At the moment I have three.

A 2011 4003FG, a 2008 360MG and a 1985 360v64/12FG.

I've owned 3 other basses between 1974 and 1995.

One day I'd like to find a deal on a 4005.

Yea, that was a very lucky local buy about 15 years ago, before the market went crazy. It came to me stripped of the original finish, and I refinshed it in nitro, using the 360 as a template. They were the same color in 1997. However I used analine stain, and now it's faded quite a bit compared to the 360.

John was quoted as saying that in the recent Tony Bacon 12 string book... (I have taken him at his word too - I owned 4 when I bought the book.. Now I am up to 5 guitars, a bass and a TR7 amp - 7 in total!)

They are a -

76 JG 430
77 JG 620
77 JG 320
79 JG 4001
80 FG 620/12
91 JG 610
78 TR7

Jetglo rocks my world clearly - although I am very partial to BG - one of these days i will score a 620 in that finish...

Very tempted by the new Ruby Finish... I love certain features though - Small headstocks and the Kluson tuners - which are not common on the new ones... There was a "newish" 2011 "vintage custom" 620 12 at Olivia's last month - i agonized over that one for a bit... lol

I too love the 600 series which i think are world's most underrated Guitars...
:) :) :)

Keep on RICing in the free world!
