No. 1: "... it's possible Buck –who never sang on R.E.M. records – would sing on the album, if not in concert."
Now that's just nuts.
No. 2: "It's unclear when Buck will finish the record, much less release it, but McCaughey says the guitarist is considering putting the album out only on vinyl and declining to release it as a download."
Wow, I love Peter Buck, but that was *rough*. He's flat the whole time and almost indecipherable in the mix. If he picked up any pointers, it sure doesn't show. Of course, in fairness to him, he has no experience with vox mics and vox monitors on stage in a live setting. You don't just jump into something like that. If he does it in the studio on his new record, that will be a different experience.
I wish we had video to confirm it was actually him singing, and not one of their many guests they had singing with them over the years - the only evidence I find on the net seems to point to a Nov. 26, 1985, show at Bayfront Theater, St. Petersburg, FL. There are several who have posted he sung it then, but they could all just be getting their info from the same source. However, I do understand he's done some vox with the Minus 5, so I guess we can presume it's him.
If so, no wonder he hasn't sung much publicly, and wisely chose to stick to the strings
Thanks for sharing. I had never heard that he had sung anything live with REM.
