Back in the '60's I was taking lessons from a small guitar studio in Tiffin, OH. The instructor was also a dealer for Rickenbacker guitars and got me turned on to these guitars. I remember the instructor had a 620/625, (I'm not sure which model) that was made out of koa wood. If I remember correctly, she said it was given to her by a factory rep. I have never seen another Rick made of this wood. Does any person at Rickenbacker know of this or is there a record of this somewhere? I'm just curious. Thanks for listening and any help you might give. RG

Most likely a 625 if it was a 60s model... Meaning it had an accent vibrato.
What colour was it? natural wood?

Thanks for responding. It was natural Koa wood. A real beauty. I guess I didn't realize that Rickenbacker was on vacation this week. Hopefully, when they return someone at Ric will have some info.

Koa? Might have been walnut.

Sounds like a really cool guitar! Shame you did not grab a picture of it!!
I love 620s myself - they are my favorite Rickenbacker...

Sadly long gone I bet... Just looking seems like only Forte Music is left in Tiffin OH - and they only go back to 1987 are not a RIC Dealership.
Might be nice to research who this teacher was.. The guitar might be under a bed somewhere... lol

I know where the guitar is and I'm working on a picture. Hope to share it ASAP. I was just wondering if anyone at Ric home office knew of this guitar. I guess I should not have posted on vacation week. RG

To my knowledge, no RIC has ever been made with Koa. Some have conceivably been made with Mahogany or Walnut, which filled and finished might have some resemblance to Koa.
