Here's some food for thought. How about a '9' version of a particular series (in my case a 659 C since I'd like to have a custom 650) that is shipped to a RIC certified finisher (such as Paul W or Dale F) and finished to the customers specs. It would be sold as an unfinished body blank for full price, finished by the builder, photographed and the info sent to RIC for archiving/warranty purposes. This would allow normal profit, reduced build time, and quality control for RIC and allow we, the buyers to have our custom guitars. I'm sure Mr. Hall's initial response is to say no, but if only certified builders and maybe even existing customers are allowed this arrangement, the RIC quality would be maintained (especially considering how some Ricks are stripped and butchered after being sold).

I like Ric semi-hollows (I have a 2006 Mapleglo 360, that I love to death). I also like and play, 7-string guitars. A 7-string version of the 330 or 360 would be THE BOMB!

I guess I'm Lucky. I own all 4 of my fantasy RICs. And never had to place a special order.

I guess I 'm lucky too./ I now have my fantasy 360/12 though I am not finiished with it yet. ebay stripper that I have restored to "better" than new with toaster tops not available in my 2003 model, 12 saddle bridge again not available as stock and due to a lucky break an "F" style long "R" cast tailpiece which just needs to be modified and chromed (story to follow in new thread). Soon to be 100% Rickenbacker parts save for the jack plate.
But as for the "Fantasy Ric" thread, my entry might raise the ire of some purists so if that's you, please stop reading this now. Though many of you may know that Semie Moseley "interned" ( not sure of spelling or even if intern is the correct term) at Rickenbacker. In fact, if you look at his designs the influence of his time spent at Rickenbacker is obvious. I have had the opportunity to procure a smashed 360/12 which has also been stripped of its hardware but the neck is said to be fine, I would love to see this neck mated to a Ventures model body and equipped with Ric 12 saddle bridge and toaster in the bridge, and either a RIC humbucker or an original mosrite in the neck locations. Tailpiece to be determined.....
I know, I know, SACRILEDGE some will say. The idea only occured because the parts might actually show up to make this possible. And I have no shame with regard to Hybrid guitars. And this is supposed to be an exercize in Fantasy. I would love to see a RIC Fire glow colored but Moserite styled sunburst finish on this piece. Please pardon my HERETICAL view on this fantasy, my apologies to anyone offended at the suggestion of something that is not pure Rickenbacker. I would only say in my defense that the parts that REALLY count (IE: the neck the bridge and the pickups are for the mostpart RICKENBACKER) The Mosrite portion is primarily cosmetic. I am curious to see the follow up comments on my MoseRic / RickRite hybrid idea. Please don't stone me???

I have two dream Rics:

1) black on black on black 4003 with black hardware and ebony fingerboard. Either "black pearl" fingerboard markers or none at all. Maybe a checkboard binding so you can find it on a dark stage

2) a current-style 370/12 but:

-- scale up the body 10% such that it becomes a 21-fret guitar
-- spread out the pickups a bit more
-- much much wider neck esp. at nut
-- carved out of birdseye or flamed maple
-- neck-through body
-- maybe no pickguard
-- maybe a belly relief on the back (not really needed on the current small body)
-- all the stringing/electronics mods off my Frankenbacker video
-- except probably put in a strat-style switch with B, BN, M, MN, N
-- some kind of locking tuners--not that staying in tune's a problem, but they could probably shave a good hour off the time it takes to restring!

I'd take mine in Mapleglo!
