The wood could potentially last hundreds of years. The glue might weaken, but one can reglue things if that happens. Hardware can be repaired and replaced, pickups rewound, etc.

With technology changing at an ever-more-rapid pace, the question should be--will anyone know what to do with an electric guitar in 100 years. When the alien archaeologists land a thousand years from now, and unearth, say, a Rick 360 and no amp, and no functioning electrical outlets to plug into if there was one, will they even recognize it as a musical instrument?

"What's this, Bob?" *Alien holds up a 360 to his pal, Bob* "I think that's either a hunting tool, or it may have aided the human mating process."

Paul McCartney has been using his Ric since when? 1964? (feel free to correct me if I am wrong.)
From what I have read, it has been modified somewhat, but still very viable as a performance/recording instrument.

I've got a '67 360 that's still doing fine after 45 years. I don't see any inherent problems with the structure of an electric guitar lasting 100 years. There are other acoustic instruments, inculding guitars, that have lasted far longer in playable condition. The only thing I can really think of is whether the insulation on the pickup-windings will remain intact?

I'd like to think of my 4003's longevity as, "When Mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me."
