I have been trying to buy a lefty bass. Either a 4003 or a 4003S in fireglo, but every time I seem to find somewhere I could buy it they tell me that Rickenbacker isn't taking orders for lefties. I really want to get one, but so far it's been impossible, and I don't really trust second hand offers, or offers by unauthorized sellers.
Why aren't they making lefties anymore and does anyone know when they will, or if they even plan on ever making them again.
I would appreciate any answers as long as it's not the old "try playing right handed and problem gone" argument.

Actually, I prefer the 4003S over the 4003. I like how it looks more.

If you check out Rickenbacker's Facebook page you'll see that leftie 4003's are definitely in production.

The link to Rickenbacker's Facebook page is at the bottom of this very page!
It's about the third or forth item down posted on Dec 3rd with a nice pic to drool over, loving that Fireglo!

Yeah, thanks! I hadn't seen that. I also asked RIC themselves through an email, and they told me they were in fact in production. Good to know. I'll order one now!

I just ordered mine too (Jetglo). I was told 8-12 months ... but I'm cool with that.
