http://www.soundland.de/catalog/product ... 32d026fe59Hi everyone! It´s the same old song again. Tremolo on a 330 without leaving the "R" tailpiece. The upper link shows the "les trem" kit which is easy to mount on stoptails. Has anybody ever thought about using it on a 330 or equal? Maybe you can put the strings over the slots where they should be fixed in right into the "R" tailpiece... I know that you have to deal somehow with the big screws for the stopbar, but everybody who puts on a bigsby on has to drill holes in his Rick, so what.

I'd never do that to my Rickenbacker.

I think that wouldn't work. Here's the thing: if you have the ball ends of the strings held against the trem unit itself, using the trem would cause the distance between the nut and the ball ends of the strings to become shorter, therefore losing tension and dropping pitch. If you just pass the strings through the slots of the bridge and thread the ball ends through the 'R' tailpiece, the trem action would not change the tension of the strings, 'cause the ball ends are fixed to the tailpiece without moving.
Don't know if it's clear enough, I don't know how to explain more clearly.

I have something like this (from Rockinger) on a LP-type guitar, and it works okay for mild bends. However, the action depends on the stop-bar pegs anchoring it pretty deep into the solid body, with the trem pivoting off the back of the assembly. I don't think it would work on any hollow body guitar--there's just not enough wood there to anchor into.
I would prefer a Bigsby, but I can't bring myself to drill holes into a guitar body. I prefer modifications that can be reversed later, if necessary. This type of trem was the best alternative I found.
