I sure wish Rickenbacker would add the Rose Morris Model 1993 12-string to the vintage series, especially after the fantastically huge audience for the Super Bowl got to see Tom Petty playing one! I think that adding the Model 1996 to the vintage reissues was definitely a step in the right direction! In fact, why not phase in all of the Rose Morris models, with the addition of the 4005 bass? That would be a dream come true! Anyone else have any ideas?

That would be great if you wanted to wait 5 years between order and arrival.

I think we'll have to wait a few more years before models such as the 1993 are re-introduced, if at all.

Having at least the 1997 in the lineup would be nice. Would have looked great with Amber Fireglo.

Basically, the only difference between the 1993 and the vintage old style 360-12 reissue is the sound hole. So with RIC in "catch-up" mode, I don't think you're going to see it for quite awhile, if at all.

Throughout his career, Tom Petty has brought a great deal of attention to the Rickenbacker guitars he plays whether it be a guitar used in concert, recording, featured on an album cover photograph or, as in the case of the 1993, televised to a huge audience watching the Super Bowl.

My vote would be for a revival of the double-bound 360/6 - the classic Beatle-era Ric - in FG or AFG, with the "R" tailpiece. Pick of the Ricks has a beautiful 1991 360WB in MapleGlo - check it out.

If that's all, then what would be the wait? 97 Million or so viewers tuning in, why wait? Remember The Ed Sullivan Show when The Beatles playing equipment such as Ludwig, Gretsch, Hoffner and Lennon playing a guitar, can't remember the brand of it ;)!

I'm sure if it is just a different sound hole design, and Rick already producing this model 360/12C63, then why not offer? Could the sound hole be programmed into the fancy milling/routers?

Anyway, I'm looking for a high res image of Tom with the 1993...anyone found a good shot of him with a full view of the Rick 1993?

As to programming the routers to make f-holes, consider this quote from p. 41 of Bacon and Day's Rickenbacker book:

"Rickenbackers with f-holes were also sold in the U.S., referred to by Rickenbacker with an 'S' for 'Special' suffix (for example, 345S). As Dick Burke recalls: 'It was the same instrument except for the f-hole--using the same jig. It was a simple job to change to the f-hole in production, it meant just changing a few screws on the jig and putting in a new pattern.' "

Thanks Clifton for that detailed info! I would like to purchase a copy of that book someday. I just finished Andy Babiuk's "Beatles gear" and it was exactly the book I needed to absorb! Unfortunately, It's a library owned, so it has to go back tomorrow.

I just saw it as a great marketing for Rickenbacker with 97 million viewers seeing it live.

It would be nice to have a reissue of the 1993, but alas, I don't think that'll happen in a million years!





But if it did, I'd love to be the person who recieves unit number 1!
