Hi, I'm being told by my local Rickenbacker dealer that the price of 4003LH basses is different for the three finishes of fireglo, jetglo and mapleglo, with fireglo being cheapest and mapleglo being the most expensive. Has anyone heard of there being an upcharge for jetglo or mapleglo before? thanks.

Andrew- When you shop for a new instrument, it's really important to know what the factory's MSRP is before you begin to talk price, AND take a pocket calculator with you. According to the US price list, there is no difference in price. The Canadian prices may be slightly different. The powers that be can answer that one. Good luck! -Dr.Phil

You'll have to pay an extra charge because your 4003 bass is a left-hand instrument. As far as a difference in price due to a certain finish, well that's a horse, make that a guitar, of a different color. Here in the U.S.A., the retail price is the same for fireglo, jetglo, or mapleglo.
Why not call a few other dealers and check out their prices for the Rickenbacker you want. Remember, the U.S. Retail Price List on this website has suggested retail prices. Maybe a few of the forum members in Canada can give you some helpful information as to what price you can expect to pay.

Andrew, you normally have to pay extra ($100 in the States) for the limited issue specialty colors (Montezuma Brown; BlueBurst; et.al), but I've never known dealers to charge different prices for the three "staples" (FG; JG; & MG). I'm sure Ric tries to pick the nicest cuts of wood for the MG's especially, but as a standard color, it sounds like the dealer is trying to make an extra profit at your expense. Good luck in your quest...

I agree with you all. Ask the dealer to justify the the extra cost, and watch him squirm.

Hi, I had to pay extra for the lefty 4003 mg i have on order.I didnt pay extra for the color, only for being a lefty. I also had to pay extra for the upgraded case. From my understanding, RIC will only ship a lefty with an upgraded case. I own three rics, white and two fg's, never had to pay extra for the colors, sounds like your dealer may be confused. merry xmas and happy new year.
