All that whole group and no mention of one of the best and most loyal to the Rick, Dave Meros of Spock's Beard. I don't understand why this band gets NO play or respect! Their music is QUITE accessible (sp?) It really trends more towards pop than prog in my opinion. Go out and buy either "The Kindness of Strangers" or "The Light" for some GREAT Rick riffs!

Spock's Beard was already mentioned in this thread so it didn't seem necessary to add them, but Geezer Butler not being listed yet on this thread? COME ON! One of the reasons I got a ric was seeing/hearing Butler use a Red 4001 on a rendition of "Black Sabbath" and that opening riff he plays sounded soooo mean. I knew I wanted a ric.
There is a video of that performance on youtube somewhere.

One bass player left off in my book from your list, my mate Stan Stammers used a 4001 Mapleglo in UK band Theatre of Hate, he went on to be the bass player of Spear of Destiny.

I stand corrected-You mentioned them on another thread of a similar theme. So sorry I did not add them originally. I need to pick up one of their records and give it a listen.

Minor correction on one of the posts: That was Roger Waters, not D. Gilmour who played bass in Pink Floyd. Waters used a 4001S in the late '60s. Listen to the live disc from Ummagumma (1969) for a great representation. Use headphones and listen to Careful With That Axe Eugene.

quote: Technically you're both right. Waters was the bassist but, Gilmour played bass on a lot of the recordings, including the fretless on "Hey You", among many others, and he played the Ric on some of those recordings, I am told. It seems Gilmour is a better bassist than Roger, not surprisingly.

quote: quote: quote: other ric users are paul d'amour of TOOL, gilmour on early Pink Floyd, the dude from Wolfmother, and Cliff Burton from Metallica back when Metallica kicked A**! I believe D'amour was only on the very first TOOL album. Also, I think you mean Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.
D'amour was the bassist on "Opiate"(the first albumn) and "Undertow"-where he puts on a veritable clinic on how good the Ric growl can sound. But technically he played the C.S. 4001 reissue. But the 4003 does a great job of emulating the C.S.'s chrunchy mids when you engage the push/pull knob to accentuate the high's. Just for the sake of clairty D'amour used an Ovation Magnum on Opiate, then switched to a Ricky on Undertow. I bought my Ric for a variety of reasons, like many here at the forums a favorite Musician who used one had a role to play: For me it was D'Amour and the sound he achieved on Undertow.

Here is a great one to add to the list! Guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen used a red Rickenbacker 4000 series bass to record the bass tracks to his albumn "Seventh Sign"

Add Lisa Umbarger, who played a 4001. (Of the Toadies albums, Rubberneck and Hell Below / Stars Above.) She has since left the band.
With some investigation, you may want to put Paul d'Amour back up with his own acts in which he plays bass AND guitar. I think he maintains a 4001 (not necessarily the CS) in his recent group, Feersum Ennjin. However the evidence is sketchy, and I've only heard this through people on Tool Army who claim to be "in the know". Still, it stands to reason he would keep using Rics, as his sound has kind of revolved back to the Tool grunge-metal sound after his years spent in psycho-pop with Lusk and The Replicants.

Yeah it seems safe to imagine that even though D'amour has been fronting and playing lead guitar most of the time since leaving TOOL- that he did lay down some bass tracks, no doubt with his rics.
I would love for him to do another TOOL album, dont get me wrong Justin Chancellor and his Wal basses are great but it would be nice to here D'Amour's Undertow tone again on a TOOL album.
More definativer than ever!
