I have been reading the threads on amps with interest as I too am looking for a nice combo unit(s).
Wanted to know if this idea would work for a small to med venue and as practice amps. (I need all the practice, I can get to get back in shape).

Ampeg BA115HPT 220W w/1X15 for the lows
Ampeg BA210 220W w/2x10" for the mids and highs

Both units are approx. $1300.00 ($650.00 each) at a guitar center web site. Any ideas to purchase cheaper would be appreciated. Really only have around $1000.00 to spend,
but may be able to squeeze some more. Would rather purchase used if possible.

As always, I value the input from you, as I can tell there are years of experience speaking on this site and people that are willing to share.
Thanks for your help.

Since you posted Ampeg BA115HPT 220W w/1X15 for the lows and Ampeg BA210 220W w/2x10" for the mids and highs I was wondering if you were you planning on buying both of those amps or just one?
Both of those amps together would be more than enough for small to medium gigs. Just the BA115HPT 220W w/1X15 would be enough for small to medium gigs, unless you are in a very loud band, then you might want both amps. The 1x15" will more more air than the 2x10".

I was thinking about both amps to use the ROS.

Whew! I'm glad that was a typo in the title. I was hoping that my top-secret bass amp design project with Ampeg had not been leaked!

Should do you very well, I would think. Isn't the 15" combo a tube driven preamp? If so, it's a much less expensive route to take than an all tube amp, and will give you a much warmer tone than an all solid state combo, even an Ampeg. Good luck, and have fun with it.

You should get a great sound and more than enough power for small to medium gigs with that set up.

Thanks all!

I saw a used SWG Black Beauty 350W w/1x18. I was looking on the web and could only find the SWG Black Beauty with a 15" speaker. Didn't get the model number.

SWG amps don't know much about them!

You mean SWR. There is only one SWR Black Beauty model and it comes with a 15" speaker.
The Super Redhead and the Working Pro 2x10C (formerly Workingman's) are SWR's 2 x 10 combos. The Working Pro is the more affordable amp. Rickenbacker basses sound excellent through SWR amps.

Yes, I need to learn to type: SWR is the correct name.
This did have an 18" speaker, probably owner added an 18"
speaker after the fact.

I have an Ampeg BA115 HPT 220wt combo and I love it. Plenty of power and it's loud too. It has more volume than I'll ever need. Hook that puppy up with a SansAmp Bass Driver, and I can't imagine needing anything else volume wise on stage. And I've played with some pretty loud players too.
Although I once did go listen to a buddy's rock band rehearse, and they were so loud they needed to use ear plugs. I had to go into the next room to keep my sanity, and my head from splitting. THAT'S TOO LOUD IMHO!

I have a 1974 V4B (tube) with modern classic cabinets---one with 4-10"/horn and one single 15" cabinet. It's a helluva set up, capturing highs, mids, and lows with excellence.

No kidding! I'm in my 40's and still have all my hearing because the bands I played in kept the volume to a reasonable level! Well, I also take earplugs to every single live show I go to. They are always, ALWAYS too loud.

Is there something wrong with keeping sound levels down to 100 dB peaks?

I agree, too loud doesn't do anyone any good.
Saw a band last night that was so loud, that I couldn't hear what they were playing. They were the halftime show for an arena football game in a large venue and it was so loud all the instruments were grinding against each other.
I just realized, that I sound just like my parents!

Country boy, My friend has a 1997 4003. He just went to the guitar center and found a new Behringer BX4500H Ultrabass head. He also bought 2 Behringer cabinets. The one cab has 2-10" drivers with a horn. The 2nd cabinet has 1-15" driver. He paid about 800.00 for the whole set up.

Check out the Musicians friend web site. All of the drivers are aluminum. It really sounds great. The head has 450 watts. It is great for small or larger rooms. For the price, you can't beat it. I'm really stunned how good that set up sounds. And for the price, you can't beat it.

Thanks, but are you able to use the ROS with this setup?
